Summary

New Lenox Public Library is looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and resourceful self-starter to join the Patron Services (Circulation) team. This hands-on position facilitates patron-focused services in a fast-paced environment to our growing community. If you enjoy collaboration and are passionate about helping others, this position is for you!The Patron Services Specialist is responsible for:Utilizing automated circulation system to perform full range of circulation procedures, including check in & check out of all materialsAnswering a variety of questions at the circulation deskIssuing patron cards, maintains files, and enters information into the databasePlacing holds for patrons and processes reserved materials upon arrivalInspecting materials for damage during checkouts and returnsCollecting fines and fees from patronsAnswering telephone to provide routine information and transfer calls to other departments; fax for patronsCarrying out procedures for notification of patrons for overdue materialsSorting checked in materials including borrowing and lending requests within system and shelves all types of library itemsActively monitoring and restocks new book and A/V shelvingCleaning books as neededAssisting and instructing patrons with self-check, accessing their record online, paying fees online, and using the coin operated photocopierEnsuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and re-shelving materialsAccepting and processing impact fees for newly built homes within library districtAssisting with library program set up as necessaryAttending library training and continuing education as neededSupporting patrons' use of library servicesPerforming other duties as requiredRequirements include:High school diploma or GED equivalentExperience handling currency and ability to add, subtract, multiply and divideOne year customer service experienceEnthusiasm to create a friendly, courteous, pleasant first impression of libraryKnowledge of the purposes and functions of libraries preferredComfortable handling multiple tasks and prioritizing workflowsPassion to work with the public in a positive mannerWorking ConditionsWork is performed in a typical library environment. Must have valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance or have the ability to arrange own transportation between library and other locations as needed.What we offer:Salary range: $16.56 - $17.60 per hour40 vacation hours annually45 sick hours annuallyPaid holidaysAdditional paid leave time accrued at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours workedTuition assistance programEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)This part-time, non-exempt position is scheduled for 20 hours per week and include the following schedule:Primarily Monday - Friday 9am-1pm and every 3rd Saturday rotationThe selected candidate will report to the Patron & Technical Services Manager.The New Lenox Public Library District enhances the quality of life in our community by fostering lifelong discovery, education, and opportunity.
