Public Safety Officer/Armed - Full Time - 2nd Shift

Summary

Armed Public Safety Officer

The Armed Public Safety Officer is responsible for providing the highest level of safety and security for the hospital during normal day-to-day operations as well as emergency situations. This role ensures the enforcement of hospital security rules, regulations, and policies in a professional, respectful, low-key manner that aligns with the hospital's mission, values, and commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to the children of the community. The Armed Public Safety Officer works collaboratively with all hospital departments to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and physicians. This position supports hospital-wide safety, infection prevention, emergency response initiatives, and patient transport responsibilities when needed. The officer must maintain a valid Ohio driver's license, remain insurable under the hospital's insurance carrier, and be capable of safely operating hospital vehicles when required. This position requires successful completion of OPOTA (Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy) or OPOTA Private Security Academy certification within 12 months of hire.

Shift: 3:00PM - 11:00PM, rotating weekends and holidays

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required

Certifications:

• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
• Must maintain a valid Ohio driver's license (No SR-22)
• Must meet all eligibility requirements for coverage under the hospital's insurance policy
• Must be able to obtain OPOTA Private Security Academy certification or Basic Peace Officer certification within 12 months of hire
• OPOTA certification preferred at time of hire

Experience:

• Previous law enforcement, military, corrections, hospital security, or armed security experience preferred
• Experience working in healthcare or behavioral health environments preferred

Skills/Competencies:

• Must be able to lift and move heavy objects as required
• Must be able to carry a department-issued firearm and successfully qualify with required department standards
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
• Ability to work effectively in high-stress and fast-paced environments
• Ability to interact professionally with patients, families, visitors, and staff
