Job Description
DescriptionThe Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position to perform specialized complex clerical, financial analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, data entry and payroll functions.
Any qualified individual may apply. This is a non-exempt position and is allocated to the Administrative, Technical and Clerical Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Accounting Technician vacancies within the District that may occur through September 10, 2027.

Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receives, organizes, and enters employee timecards for payroll processing in accordance with District policies, procedures, and labor agreements
- Organizes and files payroll-related records and documentation
- Prepares accounting records and reports for FMLA, accrual balance reporting, and overtime worked
- Assists auditors for purpose of providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal processes that is required for the annual District financial audit
- Researches and answers questions regarding payroll records and procedures
- Inputs data into system to produce payroll
- Distributes payroll checks and direct deposit notifications to department heads, supervisors, and employees
- Assists accounts payable department with retention of capital invoices and filing
- Assists accounting department in collecting required information related to small projects
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Other duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent with two (2) years college coursework with emphasis in Accounting or Business Administration.
Experience: Two (2) to Four (4) years experience in related work with a minimum of two (2) years general accounting or financial experience.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of personal computers and/or data entry and office equipment
- Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software required
- Knowledge of basic accounting and mathematic principles
- Communicate both verbally and in writing
- Interact with employees at all levels of the District
- Ability to research and solve problems in an efficient timely manner
- Ability to maintain accurate files and records
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
