Our client is seeking a highly qualified Strategic Communications Specialist (Level 4) to support high-impact mission objectives within a secure Department of Defense (DoD) environment.
The selected candidate will develop and execute strategic communication campaigns in accordance with Department of the Air Force (DAF) and DoD policies and guidance. Responsibilities include conducting research, writing speeches, preparing executive presentations, drafting press releases, managing digital and social media content, and supporting senior leader engagements.
This individual will oversee communication projects, develop executive briefing materials and talking points, and provide strategic communications guidance that advances organizational priorities. The ideal candidate is an accomplished communications professional with extensive DoD experience and the ability to advise senior military and civilian leaders in highly sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities
The Strategic Communications Specialist will:
- Provide strategic communications support to the Director of Communications
- Develop publicly releasable and classified briefings, speeches, presentations, talking points, and executive messaging
- Research complex topics and translate technical or mission-focused information into clear, audience-appropriate communications
- Manage senior leader speaker requests and coordinate with legal counsel to ensure compliance with applicable ethics-review requirements
- Plan, coordinate, and execute strategic outreach activities, public engagements, and senior leader events
- Manage official social media platforms in accordance with DAF Public Affairs policies and guidance
- Draft press releases, digital content, internal communications, messaging guidance, and other strategic communication products
- Coordinate organizational participation in space, defense, government, and industry forums
- Support communication-related taskers, reviews, and requests from senior leadership and headquarters staff
- Develop branding, educational, and outreach materials for conferences, trade shows, and public-engagement events
- Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and accurate organizational messaging
- Collect, analyze, and report communication metrics to evaluate campaign effectiveness
- Prepare required communication materials and reports for SAF/SQ and other stakeholders
- Manage multiple communication projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Required Skills and Experience
Candidates must have:
- An active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance
- At least 15 years of hands-on DoD strategic communications experience
- At least five years of experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) and SCI environments within the past five years
- The ability to obtain and successfully complete a government Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph, if required
- Demonstrated experience advising senior executives, military leaders, and key stakeholders on strategic communications initiatives
- Experience developing executive-level briefings, speeches, presentations, talking points, press releases, and communication plans
- Knowledge of DAF and DoD strategic communications and Public Affairs policies
- Experience managing digital communications and official social media platforms
- Strong research, writing, editing, presentation, and project-management skills
- The ability to develop communications for both publicly releasable and classified environments
- The ability to communicate complex mission and technical information clearly to diverse audiences
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
Education Requirements
Candidates must have:
- A masters degree in a field relevant to strategic communications or the positions functional area
Relevant professional experience and training may be considered in place of the degree requirement.
