Overnight Campus Security Officer
Location: Lowell, MA
Shift: Multiple schedules available on 3rd shift only - 9pm-5am
Pay Rate: $19.60/hour
The Overnight Campus Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors during overnight hours. This position provides proactive security services through regular patrols, access control, emergency response, and customer service while ensuring compliance with campus policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and surrounding grounds.
- Monitor campus for suspicious activity, safety hazards, unauthorized individuals, and security violations.
- Control access to campus facilities by verifying identification and authorizing entry as required.
- Lock and unlock buildings according to established schedules and ensure facilities are properly secured.
- Respond promptly and professionally to alarms, emergencies, medical incidents, disturbances, and requests for assistance.
- Complete detailed and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and shift documentation.
- Monitor CCTV systems and investigate security concerns using surveillance footage.
- Perform regular inspections of campus property to identify maintenance or safety concerns and report findings to appropriate personnel.
- Enforce campus rules, policies, and procedures while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors with questions, directions, and general assistance.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency responders when necessary.
- Support emergency preparedness efforts and participate in campus emergency response procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and security-related matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Previous security, law enforcement, military, or customer service experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if operating company vehicles).
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred or ability to obtain after hire.
- Knowledge of access control systems, CCTV monitoring, and incident reporting software is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
