Summary
Library Technician, Kingston Public Library (Kingston)Charges and discharges books and materials at the circulation desk; registers new patrons; answers telephone;handles requests for reserves and interlibrary loans; prepares overdue notices; keeps daily, monthly and yearly circulation records for professional and town reports.Provides basic reference assistance to library patrons; assists children and students with assignments and finding materials.Assists in the processing of materials for shelving; may maintain records of acquisitions and circulation statistics; processes new books; checks invoice, pulls order cards; types book pocket, card spine label and shelf card; replaces books on shelves according to categories; notifies Library Director of lost and damaged books and recommends replacement.QualificationsRecommended Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree; coursework in library science preferred; two years of related responsible experience in a library, educational or office setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Special RequirementsKnowledge, Ability and Skill: Knowledge: Working knowledge of library procedures and operations. Knowledge of basic reference and cataloging procedures. Willingness to learn book repair and processing techniques. Board general knowledge. Ability: Ability to create congenial atmosphere and work with a broad range of people. Ability to plan, organize and implement programs. Ability to adapt to a wide range of responsibilities. Skill: Strong oral communication skills. Strong public relations skills.
