Summary
Casual Campus Police Officer
West Liberty University is seeking applications for casual (as needed) campus Police Officers. The Campus Police Officer establishes and maintains a safe atmosphere for the faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the institution by providing police and security services in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
This is a Part-time Position
Essential Functions of the position:
- Performing duties as a University police officer: patrolling entire campus, protecting and guarding property/persons from fire, theft, trespass and possible hazards, including traffic enforcement and maintaining the peace of the campus
- Completes police and incident reports
- Investigating and prosecuting all reported criminal and internal complaints within WLU jurisdiction. This includes attending criminal court and on campus judicial hearings
- Assists in law enforcement, crime prevention, and the protection of persons and property in the community, including assisting local, county, and state agencies in a cooperative group effort to obtain law and order
- Monitoring and enforcing traffic laws and regulations on campus and surrounding jurisdictional areas, enforces campus parking regulations, and issues state citations and campus tickets for violations in accordance with established laws and procedures
- Identifying, apprehending, arresting, and assisting in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes
- Checking buildings for deficiencies that make the institution vulnerable to criminal acts
- Directing traffic and providing crowd control during special events, such as athletic events
- Watching for hazards and other dangerous or damaging situations
- Providing police escorts as needed to protect people and property
- Assisting other law enforcement agencies, EMS, and Fire Department as needed
- Must be available for all shifts, subject to change at any time
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the State of West Virginia (through the Academy or other qualified school).
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associate's, Vocational, or Technical School degree is preferred
- CPR training (required within 60 days of hire)
- First-aid training (required within 60 days of hire).
- At least 6 months of law enforcement experience is required
