Police Officer
The Miami Township Police Department is hiring both Entry Level (OPOTA CERTIFIED) and Lateral Transfers. Hiring bonus of up to $5,000 for officers that have three years of full-time law enforcement experience. $2,500 would be paid to a qualified officer after they complete their probationary period, and an additional $2,500 would be paid to the officer after they complete two years of continuous service with our department.
Miami Township is a community of contrasts with a rural and urban mix. The township is located in the south-central portion of Montgomery County, Ohio. The unincorporated portion of Miami Township contains approximately 21 square miles with approximately 30,000 residents. Miami Township is 11 miles from downtown Dayton and 41 miles from downtown Cincinnati.

As part of our continuing desire to become the premier police department in Ohio, we were accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in July 2017. Our work on the accreditation process has further cemented our dedication to our core values and strengthened our professionalism.
Specialty assignments include K-9 Unit, Task Force Officer, School Resource Officer, Detective, Community Resource Officer, Bike Patrol, SWAT Team, Drone Pilot, Technical Crash Investigator, Evidence Technician, and promotional opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests when necessary
- Write detailed reports on incidents, accidents, and observations
- Provide traffic control and enforce traffic laws
- Assist with crowd control at public events or gatherings
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies on joint operations or investigations
Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the job
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures related to law enforcement
- Proficiency in using firearms and other police equipment
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
Schedule:
-10 hours Shifts (4 days on/3 days off)
