A CASA volunteer visits a child in foster care at least once per month, gathers information, and advocates for the child's best interests in court. On average a CASA volunteer spends 10-15 hours per month in their volunteer role.

You do not need any specific background, training, or education to become a CASA volunteer; we provide comprehensive pre-service training and continuous support and supervision.

CASA volunteers have a powerful voice in court

Seventeen-year-old Zoe was looking ahead to graduation while weighing important decisions about her future. Each month, and before a court hearing, Zoe's CASA volunteer met regularly with her, spoke with her teachers, resource parents, therapist, and caseworker, and gathered information about her goals, successes, and struggles. During the court hearing, the CASA volunteer provided the judge with an objective picture of how Zoe was doing: highlighting academic progress, recommending she remain in her current school through graduation, that she continue counseling, and she begin an independent living program. The CASA volunteer also asked the court to ensure Zoe understood she could continue receiving support after turning 18 if she chose to remain in care, giving her a bit longer to help prepare for adulthood and life on her own.
