Summary

Explorer ProgramThis is a volunteer program —the Explorer Program gives youth (ages 14-20) a chance to learn about law enforcement, develop leadership skills, and become more involved in the community.Explorers will learn about the different areas/divisions of the Adams County Sheriff's Office: patrol, jail, detectives, civil, and other areas of law enforcement.Explorers will also gain skills and may compete in state-wide competitions in the following areas:Arrest controlCPR/first aidCrime scene investigationCriminal codeDomestic crisisDrill and ceremonyEthicsFirearm safetyHigh-risk entryHostage negotiationPatrol proceduresReport writingTraffic controlTraffic stopsExamples of Duties for SuccessAttend weekly business meetings and monthly trainings.Complete 10 hours of community service in assigned divisions—patrol, jail, detectives, and records section.Participate/assist in county functions such as parades, Adams County fair, banquets, and color guard.Involvement in fundraising activity and miscellaneous duties at the Sheriff's Office.Adhere to policy, procedures, and post orders.Qualifications for SuccessTo be considered for an Explorer position:Must be between 14-20 years of age.Currently enrolled in school with a minimum 2.0 GPA.Must be a US CitizenNo felony convictions.More Qualifications for SuccessOnce selected for the position, you will be required to:Volunteer 10 hours per month in an assigned area of the Sheriff's Office.Attend at least two meetings per month.Attend the Explore mini academy within one year of appointment.Participate in physical fitness activities.BenefitsEmployees within this job classification do not qualify for benefits.
