Oversee the AGSL's reference servicesDevelop and deliver innovative instructional programmingProvide timely and accurate reference and research assistanceSupport research and use of AGSL collections by local and worldwide scholarly and non-scholarly audiencesPromote collections and services through physical and digital exhibits, presentations, and public programsDevelop and coordinate specialized projects, programs, procedures, and servicesOversee day-to-day functions of reference, instruction, and outreach programsDirect training and supervise student Reference Interns and student workersServe as a resource to librarians and staff outside the unitModify policies, procedures, and assessment tools to improve public services experiencesServe as liaison to academic disciplines and campus units regarding collections, instructional and research support, and library servicesServe on campus, local, state, and national librarianship committeesConduct outreach for the collectionCultivate relationships with donors, collectors, vendors, and professional colleaguesDevelop, curate, and manage collectionsRequirements Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited school by date of employmentBachelor's degree or higher in geography, history, or related areaTraining/experience in special collections and rare and modern cartographic collectionsEvidence of experience in an academic or research libraryDemonstrated success working collaboratively with faculty to plan and teach library instruction involving primary source materialsExperience supervising the day-to-day work of student employeesExperience creating physical and virtual exhibitsFamiliarity with resource description, metadata standards, and schemas for cartographic, rare book, and archival collectionsEvidence of experience working with foreign language materialsEffective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skillsCommitment to public services and strong interpersonal skills for assisting users from diverse educational and cultural backgroundsAbility to manage projects effectively and independently, with strong organizational, administrative, and time management skillsDemonstrated understanding of geographic concepts and cartographic resourcesResume and cover letter requiredMust verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States upon hireEmployment requires a criminal background checkApplicant and reference checks regarding past findings or pending allegations of sexual violence and sexual harassmentCore Competencies Demonstrates expertise in reference services, instructional programming, and collection management, with a strong commitment to public services and collaboration with diverse audiences.
