Part-Time Public Services Assistant

Do you enjoy helping people, solving problems, and being part of a community-focused team? Hussey-MayfieldMemorial Public Library (HMMPL) is looking for a Part-Time Public Services Assistant to join our Whitestown Branch.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their workday. You'll be one of the friendly faces patrons turn to for help—whether they're checking out materials, signing up for a library card, looking for their next great read, troubleshooting technology, or attending a library program.
What You'll Do
In this role, you'll:
- Welcome patrons and help connect them with the resources and services they need
- Assist with library cards, check-in/check-out, holds, payments, and account questions
- Help patrons locate materials and provide reader recommendations
- Provide basic technology assistance and troubleshooting
- Create, promote, and present programs for library patrons
- Help organize, shelve, and process library materials
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Participate in library-wide and community events
- Occasionally provide support at another HMMPL location or community event
The Schedule
This is a 25-hour-per-week position with flexibility in how a portion of your weekly hours are scheduled.
The current set public service desk schedule includes:
- Monday: 5:00–8:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Friday: 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Remaining off-desk hours can be scheduled during weekday business hours, providing flexibility in how you complete your 25-hour workweek.
This position also participates in the library's weekend rotation, typically about 13 weekends per year (roughly one weekend per month), and will help claim open shifts when additional coverage is needed due to team member time off.

- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have previous customer service and team-based work experience
- Enjoy working directly with people and providing excellent service
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Are organized and comfortable balancing different responsibilities
- Are comfortable using Microsoft Office and Windows and learning new technology
- Can work effectively with patrons with a wide variety of needs and backgrounds
Experience with the Dewey Decimal System or Integrated Library Systems is helpful, but not required.
