Technical Services Librarian/Associate Librarian, Plainville Public Library (Plainville) We are looking for someone to join the energetic Plainville Public Library team where we do a lot of great things for our town with a population of just over 10,000. The successful candidate will catalog and maintain our growing collection of over 40,000 items in many formats with a robust Library of Things and museum passes collection. They will serve the public at the service desk and as a passport agent with the utmost customer service.A person in this position is responsible for the preparation of all materials for public use and their written or electronic records. They ensure access to library materials in a timely manner. They may assume the duties of the circulation staff in their absence or unusual situations.Essential Functions Include:Responsible for the preparation of all print and non-print materials for public use, including but not limited to: jackets, files, labels, barcodes, date due, repackaging, security, item identificationAssigns all new materials received by the library proper cataloging and call numbers according to the Dewey Decimal system and the American Library Association Cataloging RulesCreates catalog records and/or modify existing records. Maintains these files accurately and timelyMaintains files, statistics as requiredMaintains assets and software for library of things and museum passesMaintains whereabouts of collection by monitoring transit items and the Commonwealth CatalogUploads orders into catalogOrders replacements for lost/damaged itemsProvides reference and reader's advisory in person, online or on the phoneTrains and supervises work of volunteers in their departmentInterprets policies and proceduresRecommends procedural changes as necessaryMends and discards items. Withdraws records as requiredProvides inventory control of library and office supplies. Organizes supply shelves and file cabinetsMonitors department supply expenditures to ensure they remain within approved limitsChecks incoming orders for accuracy, forwards notification of received orders to directorAssists with opening and closing procedures and at circulation desk as neededEnsures staff is well versed in finding library materials and using library software, may create worksheets, flyers, and teaching tools for the benefit of staffMay represent the library at various meetings and programsProcesses passport applications in accordance with US Department of State regulations and stays up to date on yearly trainingQualifications Education, Training and Experience:A college degree is required. Experience in a library is required. Graduate degree in library science, a plus. Must have the qualifications to become a certified Passport Acceptance Agent.Licenses/Certificates:Must complete training and become a certified Passport Acceptance Agent upon hire and recertify each year.Knowledge, Ability and Skill:Candidates must have knowledge of library technologies along with hands- on knowledge of professional library principles, methods, materials, and practices, especially cataloging. They should demonstrate organizational skills with the ability to prioritize. Candidates need familiarity with computers and applications in relation to the Library ILS system and how the public will interact with the data. They will have the ability to use digital resources, ebooks, social media and internet connected devices.
