Jackson Madison County School System

TITLE: Crossing Guard

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

SUPERVISES: N/A

TERM: Part-time, Non-exempt

JOB GOAL: To assist JMCSS students with crossing traffic intersections and to direct traffic at assigned post before and after school hours when children are entering and leaving school.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

• High School Diploma/GED
• FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Stops traffic at crosswalks near school for the safety of school children.
2. Controls vehicular or pedestrian traffic at street crossings.
3. Assists children crossing the street going to and returning from school.
4. Instructs younger children in the precautions to be taken when crossing the street
5. Acts quickly in emergencies.
