Essential Duties and Responsibilities - to include, but not limited to:

  • Answer incoming 9-1-1 emergency calls promptly, professionally, and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Obtain and verify critical information, including the caller's location, nature of the emergency, and callback telephone number.
  • Determine the appropriate emergency response based on the information provided by the caller and established dispatch protocols.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism when communicating with callers who may be distressed, emotional, confused, or hostile.
  • Provide approved pre-arrival instructions and emergency assistance as directed by established protocols and training.
  • Process non-emergency calls and direct callers to the appropriate department or resource when applicable.
  • Identify and prioritize emergency calls based on the severity and immediacy of the situation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all calls and related activities.
  • Dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services personnel in response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Accurately communicate incident details, location information, hazards, and other relevant information to responding personnel.
  • Monitor the status and availability of emergency response units.
  • Maintain effective radio communication with law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders.
  • Coordinate additional resources and assistance as needed in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Update responding units with pertinent information received during an active incident.
  • Monitor ongoing incidents and ensure appropriate documentation of dispatch activity.
  • Relay information between emergency responders, other agencies, and the public when necessary.
  • Support the coordination of multi-agency emergency responses.
