Reports To: Snow Removal Supervisor / Airport Operations Manager
Position Summary
The Snow Removal Technician is responsible for supporting safe and efficient winter snow and ice removal operations at the airport. This position operates and assists with the maintenance of specialized snow-removal equipment used to clear airport runways, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, roadways, sidewalks, ramps, and other designated surfaces.
The Snow Removal Technician works as part of a coordinated airfield maintenance team and must follow airport operating procedures, safety requirements, radio communications protocols, and directions from supervisors and Airport Operations personnel. Because airport snow removal directly affects aircraft movement and airport operations, employees must maintain a high level of situational awareness, reliability, attention to detail, and safety discipline.
This position requires the ability to work extended shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and during severe winter weather. Snow-removal operations may be conducted continuously during significant storms and may require employees to report to work with limited notice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate snowplows, snow blowers, rotary brooms, loaders, graders, dump trucks, tractors, spreaders, deicing equipment, and other specialized snow-removal equipment as assigned.
- Remove snow and ice from airport runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, aircraft parking areas, service roads, access roads, parking areas, and other designated surfaces.
- Perform snow-removal activities in accordance with established airport priorities and instructions from supervisors and airfield operations personnel.
- Apply sand, deicing materials, anti-icing products, and other approved materials to designated surfaces as directed.
- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Identify and report equipment defects, mechanical problems, fluid leaks, damaged components, or unsafe operating conditions.
