Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment Passing of a background check prior to appointment Buchanan County is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYEREssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities :Responsible for inmate transportation and daily security observation dutyProvides documentation of inmate transfers, incidents, information, and any rule violationsMust remain certified and efficient in firearms, taser, defensive tactics, and jail operationsResponsible for general care and supervising the delivery of meals to the inmatesEnsure all duties are carried out according to all applicable laws, ordinances, and policies of Buchanan CountyResponsible for having thorough knowledge of and oversee the rights of inmatesOversee administering of any medications to inmates, as prescribed by a physicianSupervision of any inmate visitations and communicationsEnsure that all proper procedures and documentation are accurately completed for all lawfully arrested individualsTransport inmates to court in a separate buildingOther Duties and Responsibilities :May be required to operate office equipment, including but not limited to: copy machine, computer, phone, etc.Regularly prepare and review documents and policesPerform all other duties as assignedEducation/ExperienceEducation/Experience :High School diploma required.Additional RequirementsBe a citizen of the United StatesBe at least 18 years of ageMust be able to become certified in; firearms, taser, defensive tactics, and jail operationsMust possess a valid Missouri operator's license at time of appointmentMust pass a background check - no felony convictionsApplicants must meet minimum qualifications of the FBI and MSHP CJIS Security policiesRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesRequired Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Abilities :Applicants must be able to meet the strenuous physical demands of law enforcement activities, including but not limited to: arresting combative individuals, multiple flights of stairs, and have normal hearing with or without a hearing aid.Proficient in the use of all issued firearms, impact weapons, chemical munitions, stun devices, etc.Ability to classify, compute, and tabulate data and information following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of judgementAbility to compare, count, differentiate, measure, and sort information when requiredKnowledge and use of any internal computerized monitors, security equipment, telephones, intercoms, recording equipment, etc.Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of Citizens, Government representatives, Attorneys, and County personnel.Ability to exercise the judgement and decisiveness in situations involving a variety of duties subject to frequent changeAble to work independently and as part of a teamStrong attention to detail, problem solving skills, organization skills, and handle multiple incidents simultaneouslyWorking Environment/Physical Requirements:Some work in an office setting with a controlled environment. Exposure to highly intense situations. Physical activity includes bending, walking, lifting, standing, running and stooping. Exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, loud noise, and fumes. May have exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. Visual acuity and color perception a must. Normal hearing ability essential. Occasional intense physical contact with inmates. Physical strength to subdue combative individuals. Must refrain from using tobacco products while on duty.Employee Behavior and Conduct : County employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner. Employees should respect their colleagues, and extend courtesy to those with whom they come in contact both internally and externally during the performance of their job duties.We offer a complete benefits package to full-time (30+ hours/week) employees including medical, health savings account or flexible spending accounts, dental, life, and retirement. The County also offers voluntary vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and a deferred compensation plan (457b).
