Summary
Springfield Fire Department Chief Fire Officer
Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the Selection Process outlined below.
Interview (75% of overall score): First two weeks of November, individual interview times to be assigned.
Chief Fire Officer Designation Assignment (25% of overall score): Candidates will complete the Learning and Experience components modeled after the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) professional designation process. Candidate packets are expected to be sent via email on 10/15/26. Candidates must successfully pass each phase of the selection process to receive a final score and be placed on the eligibility list. The City reserves the right to adjust scheduled dates and locations as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Two years of cumulative service in the rank(s) of Fire Captain, Fire Training Captain or Fire Marshal
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Licensing/Certification
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess and maintain IFSAC certification through the Missouri Division of Fire Safety as Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer II, and Instructor I. Must have completed ICS 300.
- Must obtain ICS 400 within one year of appointment
- Must obtain or maintain professional designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
- May be required to complete additional training or certification depending on assignment.
