Police DetectiveThe Police Detective at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh conducts investigations, communicates investigative findings, and testifies in legal and administrative proceedings as needed to support the safety and security of the university community and campus property. The position serves as a liaison between the department and both internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring effective communication.Key duties include:Conducting criminal investigations to identify perpetrators, preserve the rights of victims, and prevent crime at the institutionServing as an investigator in a specialized unit formed to investigate specific crimes on a continuing basis, i.e. narcotics and gang activityUtilizing analytical techniques to detect and track down criminal activity that takes place in various mediums which may include on digital devices, computers, and the internetPreparing and submitting accurate written reports of all investigations conducted in association with all applicable laws, policies, and proceduresTestifying in court or administrative proceedings regarding statements and any other facts of informationCreating and maintaining positive relationships with institutional affiliates, legal entities, social service organizations, civic groups, and the news mediaProviding uniformed police services at special eventsProviding guidance and mentoring to police officers in conducting investigations, executing search warrants and subpoenas, and interview and interrogation techniquesCompensation: Starting at $38.50 per hour commensurate with experience.Required Qualifications:Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board CertificationObtains a valid Driver's LicenseNo domestic abuse convictionsNo felony convictionsU.S. CitizenAbility to possess a firearm and any other department-authorized equipmentMinimum of 3 years as a sworn State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement OfficerAssociate's DegreePreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's DegreeObtained Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board CertificationCompletion of advanced investigative and interview/interrogation training, evidence/forensics courses, and sexual assault/trauma-informed interviewing training, and experience putting these trainings into practiceProven experience with campus or community policing, Title IX coordination, or University administrative processesProficiency with case-management software, records systems, and basic forensic toolsBilingual skills, community-outreach experience, and demonstrated cultural competenceCritical thinking, sound decision?making, and investigative problem solving (ability to gather facts, form hypotheses, and document investigative steps)Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and respect for confidentialityDemonstrated ability to coordinate multi?disciplinary responses (medical, counseling, campus conduct, prosecutors) and to develop community partnerships10 years total law enforcement experience with at least 3 years of investigative or follow-up experience.How to Apply:Applicants must submit the following documents using the online application:DJ-LE-330 (Section 6 is NOT required)Resume*Please use your application materials to speak to each of the qualifications for this position as listed above.
