JOB TITLE: Director of Finance

SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

JOB TYPE: Full-time

STATUS: Exempt

SALARY: Up to $85,000.00

Beth-El Center (BEC) is growing and refining its organizational structure to support future initiatives outlined in the Center’s strategic plan. The Center enjoys broad community visibility and support in the region, as evidenced by its recent election as Nonprofit of the Year by the Greater Milford Chamber of Commerce.

The Beth-El Center is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides support services and advocacy for individuals experiencing homelessness and hunger in the Greater Milford community. Through our 34-bed homeless shelter, permanent supportive housing, food service programs, diversion services, and outreach and engagement efforts, we offer individuals, families, and veterans long-term solutions to help them reclaim their lives. The Beth-El Center serves 15 municipalities along the central shoreline and lower Naugatuck Valley.

SUMMARY: The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including making journal entries, managing accounts receivable and accounts payable, using financial technology systems (Such as Quick Books Online, Donor Perfect, and Bill.com) and other select finance-related administration. The Director of Finance ensures timely reconciliation and reporting of all financial statements and prepares financial analyses for the Executive Director and other key stakeholders as requested, and maintains fiscal records. The Director of Finance serves as the primary contact for internal staff on invoicing, bill payments, cash receipts and revenue, and budgets. The Director of Finance will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, tax bureaus, auditors, and department heads at Beth-El Center, and is responsible for providing master maintenance for new and ongoing Bills.com vending operations.

FINANCE MANAGEMENT DUTIES:

● Ensure proper accounting records are kept in compliance with statutory requirements, accounting standards, and financial policies.

● Establish internal control policies and procedures, and continuously identify opportunities to improve them.

● Provide timely and accurate financial information and analyses, including management and financial reporting, cash flow projections, budgeting, and forecasting.

● Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition.

● Monitor daily operations across all accounting functions, including receivables and payables.

● Manage various tax issues, tax planning, and foreign exchange control matters.

● Ensuring timely and accurate month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations are performed by accounting services (e.g., net assets, investments, revenue, expenses, payroll allocations, etc.), accounting that schedules are updated and accurate.

● Ensure all finance and accounting operations comply with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state laws and regulations.

● Manage various financial matters relating to new building construction or set-up costs, including cost review, payments, and new building construction audits, etc.

● Perform treasury management and monitor financial positions.

● Assist the Executive Director and budget managers in developing and monitoring departmental, project, and organizational budgets; assist with monthly financial reporting needs.

● Manage select administration activities, such as state unemployment compensation taxes with the Department of Labor and Paychex.

● Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including departments, government, contractors, and auditors.

● Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis

● Make and keep track of 401K submissions through K-Trade and funding submissions through Mid-Atlantic.

● Calculate wages, deductions, bonuses, and overtime based on employee records.

● Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll tax regulations.

● Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports.

● Handle employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues as they arise.

● Maintain payroll records and reports for auditing purposes.

● Monitor AP Balances and activities

● Provide master maintenance for new and existing Bills.com vending accounts

● Perform related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

● Experience managing the annual audit and preparing annual financial statements

● Experience in developing, managing, and reporting on federal, state, local, and private contracts

● Experience in managing operating and capital budgets

● Strong knowledge of accounting software and MS Excel

● Demonstrated experience in managing a small-to-medium organization’s accounting, tax, and statutory compliance requirements

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and influencing across multiple stakeholder groups

● Good at proposing and improving internal control policy and procedures.

● Self-starter with the ability to work with limited supervision

● Proficiency and hands-on experience with financial management software required.

● Experience overseeing the annual audit.

● Superior data management and data analysis skills.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION

· Four-year degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum / A Bachelor’s degree in Finance

· 5 to 7 years of experience working in non-profit finance, accounting, or related disciplines
