Summary

Position: Commercial Superintendent

Department: Commercial Operations

Reports to: VP of Commercial Construction

Job Summary:

We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Superintendent who takes ownership of the field. You’ll be the day-to-day leader on active job sites, responsible for schedule, quality, safety, and subcontractor coordination from mobilization through final punchlist. You’ll work directly with the VP of Commercial Construction and report on project status, schedule, and field issues on a regular basis. This role is right for someone who is comfortable managing multiple trade partners on fast-moving commercial projects, communicates clearly with owners and architects, and takes pride in a clean, well-run job site.

Essential Job Functions

Field Leadership & Schedule Management

  • Own the day-to-day site schedule - sequence work, manage trade activity, and drive toward milestone dates without being told
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and distribute accurate 2-week look-ahead schedules
  • Identify schedule risks early and communicate solutions to the project manager before they become problems
  • Coordinate owner-furnished equipment, long-lead items, and inspections in advance

Subcontractor Management

  • Direct and hold accountable all subcontractors on site - scope, quality, safety, and schedule
  • Verify sub crews are properly staffed and that work in place matches contract documents
  • Manage RFI and submittal coordination in the field; flag conflicts before they’re poured or framed
  • Participate in subcontractor selection by providing field-level feedback on trade performance

Quality Control

  • Conduct regular quality inspections and enforce workmanship standards across all trades
  • Maintain a pre-pour checklist process; coordinate all required inspections with AHJ and special inspectors
  • Punch list: generate, assign, and close items with a documented process, no open items at final walk

Safety

  • Enforce a zero-tolerance safety culture on every site
  • Maintain OSHA compliance across all subcontractors; document and report any near-misses or incidents same day
  • Ensure site signage, barriers, and fall protection are in place before work begins

Owner & Architect Relations

  • Represent Duke Commercial professionally in all owner and architect interactions on site
  • Conduct and document owner walk-throughs; respond to field questions with confidence and accuracy
  • Provide accurate field reports and daily logs through company project management systems

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • 5+ years of field superintendent experience on commercial construction projects ($1M+)
  • Proven track record on ground-up commercial, industrial, or renovation projects
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required
  • Strong working knowledge of reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • Proficiency with construction management software
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
  • Local to Central Indiana or willing to commute to Bargersville/greater Indianapolis area
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management a plus

The above is intended to describe the essential and supplemental functions of this job. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of all-supplemental duties, responsibilities or nonessential requirements.

What Duke Commercial Offers

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Vehicle allowance
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • A lean, professional team that values field leadership, you’ll have direct access to ownership and won’t be buried in bureaucracy
  • Diverse project work across office, industrial, healthcare, and retail, no two jobs are the same
