A well-established, employee-owned general contractor is seeking an experienced Superintendent to join their Connecticut team and oversee commercial construction projects throughout Fairfield County.

The Role

The Superintendent will be responsible for the overall field management of assigned projects from mobilization through completion. You will work closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, owners, architects and other project stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for day-to-day field operations and project execution.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors and field personnel.
  • Establish and maintain project schedules and ensure milestones are achieved.
  • Coordinate daily construction activities and sequencing between trades.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor and project coordination meetings.
  • Review plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals and project documentation.
  • Identify potential conflicts and proactively develop solutions.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality control and site organization.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager regarding project progress, changes and potential issues.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and project documentation.
  • Monitor manpower, productivity, materials and deliveries.
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications and applicable building codes.
  • Build strong relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors and project teams.
  • Assist with project closeout, punch list and turnover activities.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • 7+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably with a reputable general contractor.
  • Proven experience as a Superintendent managing projects from start to finish.
  • Experience with healthcare, education, institutional, commercial or public-sector construction.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods and sequencing.
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors and trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
  • Strong scheduling, coordination and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • A strong understanding of construction safety and quality control.
  • Experience working on occupied or active facilities is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage projects while maintaining a professional relationship with owners and design teams.
