Summary
Our client, an established community bank in Fairfield County, is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to support its residential lending team. This role is ideal for a detail oriented lending professional with experience underwriting residential mortgage loans and home equity lines of credit while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and exceptional service throughout the lending process.
What You'll Do
• Review and analyze residential mortgage loan and HELOC applications using Fannie Mae underwriting guidelines
• Prepare written loan presentations for Bank Loan Committee review and approval
• Review credit reports, appraisals, and other third party reports to support underwriting decisions
• Follow up with borrowers to obtain outstanding loan conditions and required documentation
• Clear loan files for closing and ensure all conditions have been satisfied
• Ensure compliance with all applicable lending regulations and internal policies
• Review legal documentation, title reports, insurance policies, and flood certifications
• Partner with the Chief Lending Officer, Residential Credit Manager, Mortgage Loan Processor, and Loan Originators to support residential lending activities
• Deliver responsive and professional customer service through timely communication and follow up
What You'll Bring
• Experience in residential lending and underwriting residential mortgage loans to Fannie Mae guidelines
• Strong understanding of credit documentation and underwriting file review
• Ability to review legal documents, title reports, insurance policies, and flood certificates
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to learn and utilize banking systems and software
• Familiarity with Finastra D+H LaserPro software
• High standards of integrity, ethics, and adherence to policies and procedures
• Consistent commitment to supporting organizational goals and values
• Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of five years of experience in banking or a related environment preferred
This is an on-site position with flexibility for bad weather/emergencies/etc. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
