  • Sylvan, Inc.
  • Nashville, Tennessee United States US View Map

Summary

Sylvan is seeking an experienced, dynamic Regional Safety Manager based in Nashville, TN, to oversee, implement, and elevate our occupational health and safety programs across multiple construction projects in the region. Because we operate as a multi-trades constructioncompany (including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural trades), our environments are complex, fast-moving, and highly collaborative.

In this role, you will not just enforce rules; you will actively build a proactive culture of safety, and serve as the expert advisor on trade-specific hazards. Your primary mission is to ensure every worker returns home safely every day while supporting efficient project execution across Tennessee.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Program Leadership & Trade-Specific Safety

  • Design and execute comprehensive health and safety plans tailored to specific multi-trade operations (e.g., high-voltage electrical, heavy mechanical rigging, hot work, trenching, and confined spaces).
  • Standardize safety practices across all regional jobsites, ensuring full compliance with TOSHA (Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration), federal OSHA, EPA, and local Nashville municipal laws.
  • Manage a regional team of site safety professionals, providing them with mentorship, coaching, and clear performance objectives.

2. Audits, Site Inspections & Risk Mitigation

  • Conduct regular, unannounced field audits and hazard assessments to identify at-risk behaviors and physical site hazards.
  • Review subcontractor safety plans and pre-qualifications to verify that external trade partners align with our strict safety standards.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to build Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA) and job-site specific safety plans before new project phases launch.

3. Incident Investigation & Compliance Tracking

  • Lead root-cause investigations for any near-misses, injuries, equipment damage, or vehicular accidents.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims in accordance with Tennessee workers' comp laws, developing transitional return-to-work programs for injured personnel.
  • Maintain exact safety data, including OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, training matrices, and safety tracking metrics to present to executive leadership.

4. Training & Culture Building

  • Oversee employee orientations and continuous safety training programs (e.g., Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout).
  • Develop relevant, field-focused toolbox talks tailored to multi-trade workflows to maintain high safety awareness.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated construction safety management experience, ideally within a multi-trade or specialty contracting environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related scientific/engineering field (or equivalent extensive field experience).
  • Certifications:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST).
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep mastery of TOSHA / OSHA Part 1926 regulations, specifically regarding electrical safety (NFPA 70E), fall protection, scaffolding, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Travel & Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to travel frequently within Middle Tennessee and beyond.

Preferred Skills:

  • A collaborative, relationship-building leadership style—coaching workers in the field rather than managing strictly through discipline.
  • Proficiency with modern construction safety software and the MS Office Suite.
