Summary

Vice President Sales, Defense

UAV / Drone Manufacturer

United States (Remote, with travel)

Airbotics Talent have exclusively partnered with an established, well funded US manufacturer of advanced unmanned aerial systems, supplying mission-critical technology to the Department of Defense and federal government agencies.

With an established product portfolio, proven government adoption and significant commercial momentum, the business is seeking a Vice President Sales to lead its next phase of growth across the US defense and federal markets.

This is a high impact opportunity to work directly with the CEO, take ownership of a substantial government sales pipeline and play a pivotal role in scaling an ambitious UAS business.

The Role

As Vice President Sales, you will be responsible for developing and executing the company's government sales strategy, securing major defense contracts and expanding relationships across the DoD and wider federal customer base.

Initially a hands-on commercial leadership position, the role offers the opportunity to build and develop a dedicated sales and customer success team as revenue scales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own US government sales strategy, pipeline development and revenue delivery across defense and federal markets.
  • Lead the identification, capture and conversion of major military UAS programmes, expanding opportunities across the US Army, Air Force, SOCOM, DHS and federal law enforcement.
  • Develop and leverage relationships with programme executive offices, programme managers, acquisition stakeholders and operational end users.
  • Navigate federal acquisition and contracting pathways, including OTAs, CSOs, SBIR Phase III, GSA and Congressional funding mechanisms.
  • Lead capture activities, proposal development, strategic pursuits and negotiations for multimillion-dollar government contracts.
  • Establish and manage strategic relationships with defense primes, systems integrators and industry partners.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Operations and Marketing to align customer requirements, product development and commercial priorities.
  • Provide accurate pipeline forecasting, commercial reporting and strategic recommendations directly to the CEO.
  • Help establish and scale the wider sales and customer success function as the business grows.

The Person

We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven defense sales leader with a proven track record of securing significant US government contracts, ideally within tactical UAS or closely related defense technologies.

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in US defense or government sales, business development or programme capture.
  • At least 3 years of experience selling Group 1 UAS or comparable tactical defense systems.
  • Demonstrable success securing multimillion dollar US government contracts.
  • Established relationships within US military programme offices, acquisition organisations and operational units.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD procurement, government acquisition pathways, funding mechanisms and budget cycles.
  • Experience developing and executing complex capture strategies, from opportunity identification through contract award.
  • A proactive, hands on hunter mentality, with the ability to independently develop relationships and close business.
  • Strong technical and commercial understanding, with the credibility to engage military stakeholders, engineering teams and senior decision-makers.
  • The ability to operate strategically at executive level while remaining directly involved in sales execution.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for customer meetings, programme engagements and industry events.

Previous service within the US Army or Air Force, or experience in military acquisition, would be particularly advantageous but is not essential.

US citizenship is required due to security clearance requirements and export control regulations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established defense sales professional to take a leading commercial role within a growing US UAS manufacturer, with the backing, technology and market opportunity to deliver substantial growth.
