Recycling Technician. In this role, you’ll support the City’s recycling programs by working closely with the Senior Public Works Analyst/Solid Waste Program Coordinator on public outreach, compliance efforts, data tracking, and event coordination. This year-round position is typically scheduled for 24 hours per week, with flexibility based on departmental needs.

Examples of DutiesThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Provide support in monitoring the City's Construction and Demolition Recycling Program
- Assist with compliance efforts related to SB 1383, including organics recycling, procurement tracking, and edible food recovery requirements.
- Prepare and submit basic monthly reports and assist with maintaining documentation and data entry related to recycling and organics programs.
- Respond to customer inquiries and service complaints in coordination with full-time staff.
- Assist with monitoring compliance with recycling programs
- Provide limited support for community recycling and organics outreach events, including occasional weekend assistance as needed.
- Assist in the development and distribution of recycling education and outreach materials.
- Offer general administrative support for department-wide functions, including answering phones and assisting with project-based tasks.

QualificationsAny combination demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position effectively and successfully is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of, or current enrollment in a two-year community college program in Environmental Studies or a closely related field is desirable.
Experience: Some experience in clerical/office work is required. Prior work experience in Environmental or Sustainability programs is desirable.

Benefits for Laguna Beach Hourly/Part-Time Employees The basic pay ranges are composed of either five (5), seven (7) or eight (8) steps.
Overtime Pay: All employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and a half for all hours worked in excess of forty hours per work week.
Retirement: Eligible employees are enrolled into the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). This program requires an employee contribution of 3.75% of base pay. The City matches your contribution for total of 7.5%.
Sick Leave: Employees receive 40 hours of sick leave annually, provided each July.
