    Summary

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
    The Deschutes County Road Department is responsible for the development, operation, and maintenance of the County road system, consisting of approximately 900 miles of roadway.     ABOUT THE JOB:
    The Engineering Assistant III participates in the implementation of the Road Department’s capital improvement projects, traffic operations, private development review, and other transportation engineering-related activities. This position reports to the County Engineer as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Construction inspection of highway capital improvement and preservation projects.
    • Drafting, field investigations, report preparation, and other preliminary engineering activities related to highway capital improvement and preservation projects.
    • Review and inspection related to private development and utility projects.
    What You Will Bring:
    Knowledge of or experience with:
    • Design and construction of highway projects.
    • Federal, state, and local standards related to highway design and construction.
    Skill in:
    • Reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
    • Interpreting and applying technical standards and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations, and County policies and procedures governing Public Works engineering functions.
    • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

    Compensation

    $5,649.78 to $7,212.22 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

    BENEFITS:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High school graduation or equivalency;
    • AND four (4) years combination of satisfactory experience and training in engineering, construction management, surveying, or closely-related field;
    • OR satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training as determined by the hiring authority.


    Necessary Special Requirements

    Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

    Must be willing to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.
