Full-time position with the Health Department, Behavioral Health & Injury Prevention Division located at 2400 Troost Ave
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (hours may vary due to program needs)

Responsibilities
The Hospital Responder II meets survivors of violence at the place of care to support their recovery and assist in preventing the spread of violence. This role uses a health education approach to disrupt cycles of violence in heavily affected communities. To be successful in this role, employees must understand the dynamics leading to violence, be able to develop credibility with those affected, and be capable of disrupting cycles that may lead to violent injury. Employees in this role will also perform additional administrative responsibilities on behalf of the team. This position involves non-traditional hours, with a schedule that varies week to week. Employees must be willing and able to work on-call hours and a rotating schedule.
- Rapidly responds to Emergency Department calls related to patients injured by violence.
- Communicates with patients' family members and other visitors to de-escalate potential violence and provide wraparound case management as needed.
- Notifies the Aim4Peace Street Team when victims arrive at the hospital, ensuring continuity of care between the Hospital Response Team and the Street Team.
- Provides case management services to patients referred by the KC Violence and Trauma Resource Network and other hospitals.
- Assists hospital case management staff in building relationships, identifying patient needs, and delivering services.
- Supports victims of violence as they transition from the hospital setting to continuing care and long-term recovery.
- Collaborates with Aim4Peace and hospital staff to develop action plans aimed at preventing the spread of violence.
- Attends events on behalf of the social service supervisor as needed.
- Collects and maintains documentation of all contacts and progress with participants, patients, and visitors.
- Maintains a master list of Hospital Response Team clients, carefully documenting client progress and staff interactions.
- Distributes public education materials to patients and their families.
- Assists with planning periodic events, such as speaking engagements, outreach activities, and conferences.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree OR High School Diploma and four (4) years of experience in private, public, or community healthcare, community sanitation, health inspections, health education, data analysis, or related healthcare fields OR An Accredited Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience. Must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
