The Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) seeks a Public Affairs Specialist to join the Public Affairs Office in the Director's Office.
This position will be located at the DMH Central Office in Jefferson City.
The base salary offered for this position is $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 annually, commensurate with education and/or experience. This is a base salary rate. Applicants eligible for time of service pay adjustment or shift differentials may exceed the salary range listed above.
- Provide skilled communication services to public and internal audiences.
- Use strong editing and writing skills.
- Coordinate multiple projects effectively while meeting tight deadlines.
- Develop successful relationships with department staff to improve publications, communications, and services.
- Perform basic research when necessary to ensure that content is accurate and factual.
- Assist with maintaining the overall appearance and technical functions of the department’s intranet and public-facing websites.
- Complete website updates in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to adding/editing/removing content, troubleshooting errors, maintaining compliance with necessary requirements per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Search and develop promotional messages and content for DMH social media platforms.
- Create social media strategies; develop and manage a social media calendar and execute content.
- Monitor social media channels for comments, feedback, and inquiries, and creating awareness with leadership as needed.
- Convert and optimize published documents for online use, ensuring documents are ADA accessible.
- Meet with colleagues as needed to evaluate and modify webpages and clarify goals for new webpages.
- Support internal ADA accessibility training for staff as needed.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance, and perform additional work as needed.
- Take photographs and videos as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: - A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, web design and development, or a closely related field, or five years of experience in public relations successfully performing tasks, including event planning, website content management and social media management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills: - Familiarity with Adobe Suite products such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat is recommended.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube is recommended.
- Working knowledge of social management tools such as Hootsuite is preferred.
- Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal and/or WordPress is preferred.
- Experience with event planning is preferred.
- Knowledge of marketing and advertising practices is preferred.
- Familiarity with a variety of graphic and web design software is preferred.
