    The City of Redlands is seeking a seasoned and well-rounded human resources professional to serve as its next Assistant Director, Human Resources/Risk Management. This at-will position reports to the Director, Human Resources/Risk Management. The Assistant Director is responsible for the operations and personnel of the Human Resources/Risk Management Department, including being a key contributor on various aspects of labor relations with oversight of recruitment and selection, benefits management, performance management, training, staff development, organizational development, classification and compensation, discipline, safety, risk, volunteer management, and compliance. Additionally, this position provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director. Manages and supervises a broad range of complex organizational, human resource management operations and participates in dispute resolutions, discipline, grievances, and arbitration; coordinates assigned employee/labor relations, risk management, workers’ compensation, and safety matters. As a collaborative leader with experience in enterprise risk management on an organization-wide basis, the Assistant Director is frequently involved in issues involving significant potential litigation risk, cost, and exposure to adverse public reaction.

    The annual salary range for this position has a current range of $157,051 to $190,896. Interested parties should be aware that a city-wide Classification and Compensation Study is currently underway. The City offers a 3% Education Incentive applied to those holding a Master's Degree in an applicable field of study. Additionally, the City will be offering a $10,000 hiring incentive. The City of Redlands also offers an attractive benefits package, including CalPERS retirement.

  • Job Requirements

    This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of increasingly responsible human resources management experience in a California municipal agency, including 5 years of management responsibilities in labor relations and union negotiations experience, and 3 years of management of risk management functions. Previous experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or equivalent senior leadership position is required. Specific experience in California is highly regarded due to the collective bargaining laws. A Master's degree is preferred. Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification is highly desired.
