City Government
The City of Monte Sereno operates under a Council– Manager form of government. As a small city, services are provided both directly by the City and through partnerships with neighboring agencies. The City provides core services including administration, finance, building permits and inspections,
planning/design review, and city clerk/election services. Fire prevention and protection are provided by the County of Santa Clara, and law enforcement by the Los Gatos–Monte Sereno Police Department. This collaborative approach allows Monte Sereno to deliver high-quality services in a cost-effective manner while preserving its small-town character.

The City Engineer is a key member of the City’s small, collaborative leadership team. This position serves as the City’s chief engineer and is responsible for managing all municipal engineering functions. Core responsibilities include:
- Overseeing planning, design, review, and implementation of capital improvement projects
- Reviewing private development applications, maps, and permits for compliance with City codes and standards
- Administering the City’s engineering contracts, consultants, and project budgets
- Providing technical expertise and advice to the City Manager, City Council, and community members
- Managing public works and infrastructure maintenance with a focus on safety and sustainability
Monte Sereno is seeking a dynamic and thoughtful professional who brings:
- A California Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Engineering
- Broad experience in municipal engineering, including capital project delivery, development review, and public works oversight
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with residents, consultants, and regional partners
