Why you’ll love this position: Welcome to DESE’s Office of Childhood! This new office provides a comprehensive approach to childhood care and education in Missouri. It includes programs related to child care, home visiting, early learning, and early intervention for children birth to age five, as well as afterschool programs for school-age children. The Office of Childhood is responsible for overseeing DESE’s efforts to expand and improve high-quality early learning opportunities.
- Understand and interpret regulation as it relates to child care comprehensive criminal background screenings.
- Review and process forms submitted by child care providers to request background screenings on current or prospective staff.
- Access fingerprint and Family Care Safety Registry screening results to review for ineligible offenses.
- Collaborate with individuals and other states to process out of state background screenings as required.
- Complete system data entry to document and track processing of background screening requests.
- Prepare appropriate letters based on outcome of background screening.
- Maintain files electronically.
- Effectively communicate to provide timely assistance to individuals over the phone and in writing.
- Meet deadlines for processing background screenings.
- Communicate frequently with the Program Coordinator and team about system issues or delays in processing.
- Assist the Coordinator and serve as backup to team member duties as needed.
- Attend and participate in meetings and workgroups as required.
- Set and follow priorities, successfully adjust to rapidly changing situations, and concurrently manage multiple tasks.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with office staff, department staff, other state and local agencies, and the public.
- Ability to use Windows and Adobe software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and communications.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.
Minimum Qualifications: - Graduation from high school or High School Equivalency required.
- Two more years of progressive experience in a closely related area.
