JOB SUMMARY: Must be available for temporary, on-call, non-remote, assignments of varying timeframes. As a member of a temporary / on-call labor pool and under close supervision, performs a variety of manual labor, general, semi-skilled or skilled work in the maintenance of municipal property, repairs, construction, and sub-journey work in multiple trades. Operates a variety of common and specialized equipment to perform work. Work is physically demanding and incumbents are occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions. Assignments and work methods are outlined in detail. Supervision is received through superiors who give general direction as to job requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Collects trash and debris from city-maintained properties; loads vehicles with trash and debris; disposes of trash and debris.
- Cleans restrooms; provides minor maintenance to city-maintained facilities; performs minor landscaping to include, but is not limited to, trimming hedges, weeding, and planting.
- Removes sand and debris from city maintained properties walking areas and streets.
- Helps load and unload tools and equipment from delivery vehicles.
- Performs tasks related to the maintenance of City owned roads, facilities, beaches, and all areas within the rights-of-way as assigned.
- Assists in troubleshooting maintenance problems involving streets, sidewalks, and all areas within the rights-of-way.
- Performs construction work; may smooth and level surfaces of poured concrete, such as walks, sidewalks, and/or curbs using a variety of hand tools; aligns and places forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patches voids; and uses power tools to cut expansion joints and grind uneven edges.
- May be required to patch broken or eroded pavement and repair guard rails, and highway markers.
- Performs journeyman level tasks related to the maintenance of City owned roads, facilities, beaches, and all areas within the rights-of-way, as assigned in the trades of carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment and tools associated with the assignments and projects.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of self, other employees, and individuals.
- Helps set up and remove Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) devices as directed.
- Works collaboratively and effectively with all members of the assigned crew to accomplish required working assignments and City projects.
- Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service or assistance.
- Communicates with supervisors, other employees, other departments, and members of the public as needed, to coordinate work activities, review status of work and to exchange information.

Required:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent and six (6) months of manual labor, general maintenance, or construction experience.
Preferred:
One (1) year of manual labor, general maintenance and construction experience.
Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : - Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: - Knowledge of the use of common garden and construction tools.
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting supplies.
- Knowledge of tasks related to maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and all areas within the rights-of-way.
- Knowledge of building codes and accessibility requirements under the ADA.
- Knowledge of equipment and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, and all areas within the rights-of-way.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to perform arduous manual labor in a variety of climatic conditions.
- Ability to lift 60 lbs. on a routine basis with or without help.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow safety practices and recognize hazards.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow instructions in written, verbal, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability to understand and carry out simple verbal instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, write, hear, speak and be required to exert at least 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. May require the use of fingers or hands to manipulate objects such as picking, gripping, or pressing.
