As an Engineering Technician Trainee, you will assist with a variety of public works projects involving roads, bridges, drainage, and other County infrastructure. Typical duties include performing field surveys, collecting and managing data using GIS and AutoCAD, preparing maps and technical drawings, assisting with construction inspection, and supporting materials testing and project documentation. You’ll work closely with engineering, surveying, and GIS staff to learn practical skills in design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure while gaining valuable hands-on experience in both field and office environments.
This position performs a variety of sub-professional office and field engineering work involved in the planning and design of public works facilities and assists other engineering staff in the performance of office and field engineering work.

Qualifications Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Some technical engineering experience is desirable.
Training :
Equivalent to high school diploma with additional course work in computer applications or a related field.
Licenses: Hold a current California Class “C” Driver's License.
Supplemental Information Engineering Technician Trainee : $3,649 - $5,989 Based on a 40-hour week. The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
