Motorist Assistance Operator

Why you’ll love this position:

The motorist assistance operator promotes freeway safety and expedites the flow of high volume traffic by assisting disabled motorists in the patrol areas, clearing roadways of stalled vehicles and debris, and assisting emergency personnel at accident locations. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

• Assist motorists with minor vehicle problems such as tire changes, broken fan belts, low fluids, dragging tailpipe/muffler and dead battery; provide state maps, travel information, telephone use, flares, tool use, and short distance transportation.
• Patrol/respond to high traffic roadways to keep traffic congestion, accidents, and delay time to motorists at a minimum; remove debris and disabled vehicles from roadway.
• Prepare reports on responses to motorist assistance calls, daily activities, and equipment usage.
• Respond to emergency situations on roadways and provide traffic control; communicate with medical and/or law enforcement personnel.
• Communicate with district maintenance and traffic personnel on signing, pavement, and weather conditions; photograph and report on property damage.
• Work schedule will be 8-hour work days, Monday-Friday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm, with an on-call rotation.
• A MoDOT vehicle will be assigned to be able to respond to emergency situations.

• Job requires heavy physical exertion and effort.
• Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
• Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restrictions and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or Non-Excepted Interstate [NI]).
• Four years of experience in equipment, routine, or special maintenance.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
