    This position will be located at 2155 N. Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, MO with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Southeast Regional Office, Air and Land Section.

    The Air and Land Section in the Southeast Regional Office strives to protect the air quality and natural resources for the 28 Counties in the Southeast Region in Missouri. The position will perform technical work implementing the Missouri Laws and Regulations to evaluate and determine environmental compliance related to air pollution.

    • Perform inspections, investigations, and compliance assistance activities at facilities with air pollution permits, that emit criteria air pollutants, and asbestos regulated projects, using knowledge of the laws and regulations to determine if facilities are operating in compliance.
    • Communicate by means of written reports, telephone, email, and other electronic means.
    • Implement policy and rules concerning air pollution emission facilities. Provide feedback to management and the Air Pollution Control Program to communicate how well policies are working based on field observations and suggest changes in their development.
    • Respond to other duties as assigned, including infrequent response to environmental emergencies.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, consider the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
    • Attention to Detail : Thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
    • Environmental Science : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • This position requires a valid driver’s license.
    • A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline; preference towards environmental, chemistry, or geology degrees.

      • For Assistant : Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 year of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
      • For Analyst : Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
