    Joplin Assistant Director

    MO Department of Mental Health / Division of Developmental Disabilities

    Expected Salary: $3,152.30 semi-monthly/$75,655.20 annually

    Job Location: This full time position is located at the Joplin Satellite Office, at 3600 E Newman Road, Joplin, MO 64801. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m.

    Minimum Eligibility Requirements:Per CMS Guidelines §483.430 to meet Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP), you will need three years of experience providing services to a person with intellectual disabilities, one of which must be in a supervisory role, and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Recreation, or Human Services (sociology, special education, rehabilitation counseling, or psychology). This position requires five years of relevant experience with at least one year of supervisory experience.

    Current DMH employees will not be eligible to apply if they have a disciplinary action within the last 6 months.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership that assures the Department and Division mission, values, and outcomes are implemented throughout the Regional Office.
    • Support a positive and inviting culture
    • Participate in System of Care meetings for Joplin and Springfield regions
    • Participate in Upstream and other community round table events to enhance services and supports for the southwest region
    • Attend community events as assingned
    • Act as back up to the other Assistant Director for the Region and designee for the Director for tasks as assigned
    • Travel between the regions as needed to participate in meetings that are held in person
    • Triage and follow up on crisis calls from families, individuals and stake holders
    • Hold TCM calls for county boards prepare agenda, facilitates and cite authorities for meeting. Host calls with each county TCM board support coordinators to educate, communicate, review county issues and solutions.
    • Review all TCM trend reports with the Director and address issues with TCM entities.
    • Provide day to day troubleshooting: crisis management, the logistics of individuals moving between providers, working with TCM providers and other provider agencies. Develop, implement, and administer habilitation programs and services to achieve positive client or program outcomes.
    • Attend Director’s/Assistant Director’s meeting to strategically plan the Satellite Offices.
    • Supervisor expectations
      • Monitor employee assignments to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and compliance.
      • Recommends training for staff of new processes and enhancements.
      • Review, submit, and approve all timesheets by established deadlines.
      • Meet with the Team Members monthly and record meetings in Engage tracking system.
      • Document performance throughout the year and address situations that need to be addressed in a timely fashion.
      • Monitor personnel issues with staff, address sick leave, annual leave, tardiness, and overall work performance.
      • Foster an open environment for the exchange of ideas by being open to differing opinions and ideas.
      • Make timely and consistent decisions and communicate those to staff in a clear manner.


    4 or more years of relevant experience and 1-2 years of supervision experience or a Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of supervisory/leadership experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, or similar programs is preferred.
