DescriptionVacancy is in the Department of Health & Human Services. Under general supervision, performs increasingly difficult and responsible clerical work for the operation of an organizational unit. Recommends changes in procedures and provides information to other employees and department heads. Supervises subordinate clerical personnel, assigns work, instructs new employees, answers questions, reviews work, and solves procedural problems. Composes original correspondence of moderate difficulty without instruction. Types letters, reports, specifications, invoices, statistical tabulations and related material. Incumbent(s) may perform additional related duties as required.
This is a 1716 union position. The hours of work for this position are 40 per week. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application. It may also include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure:
Knowledge of: - Departmental programs, policies, procedures and operations with respect to the functions performed;
- Modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to:- Make work decisions in accordance with rules, regulations and departmental policies and procedures;
- Plan, assign and supervise the work of clerical subordinates;
- Maintain clerical records of some complexity and to prepare reports from such records;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public;
- Type at the rate of 45 words per minute.
Physical Demands and Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications Open to all qualified applicants who that meet the following qualifications: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a G.E.D.
AND three (3) years of experience in increasingly difficult and responsible clerical work and general typing.
A COPY OF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, GED CERTIFICATE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION. A DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT. If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve six (6) months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
