The Vallejo Flood & Wastewater District is seeking a Senior Engineer for its Capital Improvement Program. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to contribute to the District’s mission of enhancing the quality of life for Vallejo residents by delivering effective sewer and flood control services. We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and goal-oriented professional to lead our exceptional Capital Improvement Program team in the successful delivery of over $50 million in currently adopted, challenging, and diverse projects. Our ten-year Program includes aggressive delivery goals for over $250 million in additional projects focusing on asset rehabilitation and regulatory compliance. This includes a multi-year, collaborative delivery project aimed at reducing nutrient loading in effluent discharge to meet regulatory permit limits by 2034.
This supervisory-level role is designed for experienced professionals ready to lead. The Senior Engineer oversees complex engineering projects, supervises professional and technical staff, and contributes to strategic planning, budgeting, and policy development. You’ll manage sensitive and high-impact initiatives, mentor staff, and represent the District in public and interagency settings. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a California PE license, and at least six years of professional experience, including project management and supervisory duties.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District (the District) is an independent special district established by the State of California in 1952 to manage wastewater collection and treatment and protect the Vallejo community from flooding. Operating separately from the City of Vallejo, the District’s dedicated team works to enhance the city’s sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, delivering high-quality service to the community.
Governance is provided by an eight-member Board of Trustees, composed of the seven Vallejo City Council members and one at-large member appointed by the Solano County Board of Supervisors. With 98 full-time equivalent employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $47 million, the District is committed to safeguarding public health, safety, and the environment through reliable wastewater and flood control services.

If you are a successful candidate for this position, you will be asked to take an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Public Employees. All Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District employees are, by state and federal law, Disaster Service Workers. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Labor Code. In the event of a declaration of emergency, any employee may be assigned to perform activities that promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. The assignment may require service at locations, times, and under conditions that are significantly different from normal work assignments and may continue into the recovery phase of the emergency. If a “Local Emergency” is declared during the employee’s shift, employees will be expected to remain at work to respond to the community's emergency needs. If a “Local Emergency” is declared outside of the employee’s shift, employees must make every effort to contact their direct supervisor or department head to obtain reporting instructions as a Disaster Service Worker.
