JOB SUMMARY
The Reporting Analyst transforms district data into reports that support data-driven decision-making across Tacoma Public Schools. This role builds, maintains, and improves reports in Power BI to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with district goals. The analyst collaborates with technical teams and end-users, provides efficient user-friendly tools, promotes continuous improvement, and maintains high standards for data quality, privacy, and accessibility. Through collaboration and innovation, the Reporting Analyst advances district priorities, enhances departmental use of information, and drives student success and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Build and maintain dynamic Power BI dashboards and reports using district data warehouse sources. Translate complex datasets into clear, timely, and accessible insights that inform decisions and support district priorities, benchmarks, and KPIs
2. Create reports, validate, and monitor data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness across systems and reports. Align reporting practices with established standards, definitions, and stewardship protocols. Uphold district, state, and federal requirements for privacy, security, and accessibility while maintaining clear documentation, version control, and change management practices for all reporting assets.
3. Partner with other Reporting Analysts, technical teams, the Data and Apps Team, district leaders, departments, and schools to identify reporting needs, clarify goals, and deliver efficient, user-friendly solutions aligned with district goals. Engage in listening sessions with stakeholders to gather feedback, understand changing needs, and continuously improve the quality and usability of Power BI reports and dashboards. Provide support and training to help staff interpret and use data and reports. Promote equitable access to information by designing tools that are intuitive, inclusive, and meaningful for diverse audiences.
4. Regularly review and enhance reporting processes, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and user experience. Recommend and implement automation, process improvements, and emerging technologies that enhance the district’s analytic capabilities. Document recurring issues and solutions to support learning, consistency, and process innovation. Contribute to shared documentation, templates, and training resources. Actively engage in continuous learning to enhance and strengthen professional expertise, technical proficiency, and innovative practice.
5. Deliver high-quality reports, analytics, and automations that support district projects, accountability measures, and improvement planning. Collaborate with IT and cross-departmental teams to ensure data pipelines and system integrations remain accurate, secure, and efficient. Provide accurate time estimates, progress updates, and documentation for assigned projects to promote transparency and coordination. Offer backup or project support to colleagues during high-demand periods, absences, or other special projects.
6. Maintain the highest standards of data ethics, confidentiality, and professional integrity in all reporting activities. Respond to and resolve support requests for the reporting system in collaboration with IT and Data Services teams. In all duties, promote Tacoma Public Schools’ commitment to equitable access, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making to enhance student outcomes and operational effectiveness.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the department and district's goals.

Work is performed in an office environment and across district sites.
Experiences frequent interruptions and extended periods of computer and video display use.
May be required to work extended or irregular hours to meet project deadlines or support time-sensitive reporting needs.
May need to travel between district locations for meetings or onsite support.
Handles and safeguards confidential or sensitive information in compliance with district policy.
Regular and reliable in-person attendance is an essential requirement of this position.

Education and Experience
Associate's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; or comparable vocational-technical certification. Three (3) years of professional experience building data models and creating visualizations that make complex information clear and actionable for non-technical users. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered if it demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work effectively.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Valid Washington driver’s license with access to personal transportation.
Proof of training and/or certification, required, if applicable.
Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge in Power BI, SQL, SSRS, and Excel for building and maintaining reports, data models, and dashboards.
Knowledge of data set modeling, including star and snowflake schemas, and data relationships such as one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many.
Ability to select and apply appropriate data visualization techniques and delivery formats tailored to different audiences to effectively communicate insights.
Knowledge of data warehouse architecture, including cubes and fact tables, as well as with version control systems, documentation tools, and the software development lifecycle.
Ability to optimize report performance and leverage emerging BI technologies to enhance accessibility and user experience.
Proficiency in validating, auditing, and ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data across systems.
Ability to interpret complex datasets and convert business needs into practical, data-driven insights.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a dedication to continuous improvement.
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining high-quality documentation, training resources, and user guides.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, offering consultative support and promoting data literacy across departments.
Proven ability to engage in discussions, gather feedback, and follow up on action items to ensure progress and accountability.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work independently while adhering to data privacy and governance standards.
