THE POSITION NON-CAREER PART TIME/SEASONAL Assistant Pool Managers assist in overseeing all operations at an assigned aquatic facility. This position provides an opportunity for incumbents to receive on the job training to gain experience in parks maintenance, construction, landscape, medians, facilities, pool maintenance, or graffiti removal work. Incumbents with an interest in pursuing a career in municipal government will learn about municipal government functions and gain experience by completing tasks and special assignments related to the program area. THE POSITION NON-CAREER PART-TIME/SEASONAL To perform regular lifeguard duties and assist in the supervision of pool staff in the organizing and instructing of aquatics classes and activities; to assume full responsibility of aquatic facility in absence of an Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Responsibilities may include the indirect supervision of lower level aquatic personnel. Direct supervision is provided by the Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed: Maintain constant surveillance to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents. Rescue and resuscitate drowning persons. Rescue and aid persons affected by life threatening injuries. Render care in the latest American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.) to persons in need of assistance. Direct, instruct, and assist in the supervision of water oriented classes such as swim lessons, swim team, junior guard and water aerobics. Enforce facility rules, regulations, and procedures; take appropriate action to prevent dangerous situations and accidents. Assist in the maintenance of the aquatic facility including its building, grounds, and equipment. Write and prepare lesson plans, assist in the planning, promoting, and organizing of aquatic programs. Maintain records and reports. Perform the duties of the Pool Manager in their absence. Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Current and preventative lifeguarding techniques. Rules and regulations of an aquatic facility. Swimming rescue techniques, C.P.R., and first aid. Instruction techniques and materials related to aquatic activities. Swimming pool maintenance and the chemicals, equipment, and techniques used to Meet State and County Department of Health standards. Aquatic instruction programs. Principles and practices of supervision. Ability to: Swim with proficiency and endurance. Prevent accidents and effect rescues. Enforce the rules and regulations of an aquatic facility. Perform swimming rescues, C.P.R., and first aid. Instruct students in a variety of aquatic oriented skill level classes. Establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public. Follow oral and written instructions. Prepare, read, and write various reports. Interpret policies and procedures. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education: None required. Experience: One season or 2.5 months of experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard or swim instructor. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Age : Must be 16 years of age at time of appointment. Certification : Possession of a current course completion certificate as required by current Federal, State, and Local law. Completion of American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR and AED certification by time of appointment.
