The incumbent is involved with a variety of medical and administrative support duties that fall within the scope of practice defined by the Medical Board of California. Job Summary The Sonoma State University Student Health Center (SHC) is a rewarding, pleasant, busy, nationally accredited campus clinic. Services provided by CSU student health centers include, but are not limited to, primary medical care, counseling and psychological services, and sexual health education and support (including provision of medication abortion services. Reporting to the Senior Director, Counseling and Psychological Services and the Student Health Center, the Medical Assistant (MA) is a formally trained, certified, multiskilled, and key member of a dedicated team of Student Health Center staff providing high quality, evidence-based medical care & prevention services to support the health & success of SSU students. The incumbent is involved with a variety of medical and administrative support duties that fall within the scope of practice defined by the Medical Board of California. Responsibilities include assisting with front and back office patient flow, patient visits, procedures; diagnostic tests, medical reception, scheduling, medical records, and similar responsibilities including using an electronic health record system. Duties are performed in a busy collaborative environment that requires flexibility, versatility, the ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers, work quickly and accurately, balance competing priorities, and assure follow-through. Key Qualifications This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities, along with one or more full time equivalent years of medical assisting experience, preferably in an outpatient setting. The incumbent is required to have completed an accredited and approved medical assisting training program or equivalent consistent with the requirements of the Medical Board of California; and possess a certificate of completion as a medical assistant from an accredited and approved medical assisting program with skills documented and maintained via in-service training, continuing education, and testing. Eligibility for California certification as a medical assistant through completion of an approved MA training program is required.
