The Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) is authorized to complete its studies and reviews pursuant to several sections of the Code of Virginia:
The duties of the Commission and the nature of its studies are specified in sections 30-56 through 30-63 of the Code of Virginia. Report findings and recommendations are to be submitted to the agencies concerned, the Governor, and the General Assembly. In 2001, the General Assembly amended the Commission's general authority to require an annual report on State spending.
The Program Review and Evaluation Act provides for periodic review and evaluation of selected topics from among all seven program functions of State government.
