Big Bear Municipal Water District (MWD) is an independent special district of the State of California established in 1964 by the people of Big Bear Valley for the purpose of stabilizing the water level of Big Bear Lake for recreation and wildlife. What We Do: 1. Stabilization of the level of Big Bear Lake by managing the amount of Lake water released to the downstream water rights holder 2. Watershed/Water Quality Management 3. Recreation Management Wildlife Habitat Preservation & Enhancement 4. Bear Valley Dam and Reservoir Maintenance.
