It is one of 27 member agencies of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) that is authorized to deliver wholesale water supplies from the Colorado River and Northern California. The District gets its name from the three areas that it serves: the Pomona, Walnut and East San Gabriel Valleys. There are 14 cities and water agencies that are served by the District. The District covers an area of 135 square miles and contains a population of 500,000. The annual budget is over $30 million, with most of the money involved in the purchase and sale of water. The District is presided over by an elected, seven-member Board of Directors.
