Responsibilities

What you'll do
- Inspect construction projects on active job sites to ensure work meets City standards and specifications, protecting quality and compliance
- Review and inspect warranties to reduce liability and safeguard City interests
- Coordinate pre-construction meetings and confirm project start dates to support smooth project execution
- Monitor job sites to ensure safety regulations are followed and risks are addressed promptly
- Communicate with contractors, utilities, and the public through written correspondence to resolve issues and share project information
- Respond to citizen questions and concerns related to construction activities and impacts
- Perform snow removal on assigned residential routes during winter months as required
- Complete related duties to support departmental operations and project completion

What you'll bring
- Experience performing construction inspections or supporting engineering and infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of construction standards, specifications, and safety practices
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and in person with contractors, utilities, and the public
- Attention to detail when inspecting work, reviewing warranties, and documenting findings
- Ability to follow general directions, work independently in the field, and collaborate with technical supervisors
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 5 years of related and increasingly responsible experience in engineering drawing, mapping, automated mapping, GIS and equipment, CADD, engineering, land survey, construction inspection and related fields; OR high school graduation and 2 years of experience at the level of Engineering Technician and possession of either the Level II Engineering Technology Certification in any Civil, Electrical or Mechanical discipline as issued by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET); the Land Surveyor in Training as issued by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects; OR the Class B Wastewater Collections System Certification from the Missouri Water Environmental Association; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. If moving from a non-safety-sensitive position, must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical as prescribed by the City.
