Registered Nurse (RN) - Per Diem* to support the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program. This position provides clinical case management for TB patients and ensures high-quality, evidence-based nursing practice in alignment with federal, state, and contractual requirements. The RN will engage in disease surveillance by monitoring and reviewing TB case reports and initiating an appropriate public health response per county and state protocol. Duties will include collaborating with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and community agencies to support timely identification, evaluation, and treatment of individuals with suspected or confirmed tuberculosis, reduce TB transmission, strengthen TB-specific infection prevention practices, and improve TB outcomes countywide. The RN may also support other programs within CDS, including epidemiology, immunizations, and community collaboration initiatives. Additionally, will assist with formulating standard practices, conducting staff training and evaluations to ensure compliance with infection control and with testing guidelines, work with other healthcare professionals, maintain detailed records, assist in emergency response efforts during outbreaks, and provide coverage for Public Health Clinic Nurses when needed. This position reports to the Supervising Public Health Nurse.

DEPARMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH - COMMUNICABLE DISEASE SECTION CDS performs disease surveillance, implements infection control measures, and provides education designed to reduce or manage the rate of infectious diseases that are consistent with California law. CDS provides a wide range of personalized services working directly with San Bernardino County residents who have communicable disease conditions and referring them to health care providers. CDS also works with schools and health care providers to boost immunization coverage for all ages.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Appointment/Per Diem: Positions are in the Unclassified Service and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. Per Diem positions participate in the County's PST Deferred Compensation Plan and do not earn any other benefits.
Per Diem: Per Diem Nurses are not Regular Positions within the County, and there should be no expectation of continued employment or guaranteed hours. Working as a Per Diem Nurse does not preclude you from applying and competing for Regular nursing positions within the County. (Refer to the San Bernardino County website for current open recruitments.)
Shift Availability: Positions require working various shifts; therefore, candidates must indicate availability for all shifts to be considered. Rotating weekend and holiday coverage may be required.
Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening.
Travel/Driver License: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN)
- Valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate (Course Completion Card) issued by the American Heart Association.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent clinical licensed RN experience.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have experience in infectious disease case management. A master’s degree in nursing is preferred, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.

HOLIDAY: Employees in regular positions are entitled to ten (10) paid recognized holidays and are paid twice the base hourly rate for hours worked.
DIFFERENTIALS: The County offers differential pay in the following areas: Unit differential; Charge nurse assignment differential; Medical support weekend differential; Mobile intensive care nurse certification differential; preceptor pay; shift differential and certification pay. DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees are eligible to participate in the County’s 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a supplemental retirement Plan that permits employees to defer a certain portion of their pre-tax salary, within certain Internal Revenue Service (IRS) limits, to an account maintained by an investment service provider. Participating employees postpone paying taxes on the deferred portion of their income.
COMMUTER SERVICES: This program assists employees in finding solutions to driving alone by assisting in forming Vanpools, providing information on carpools, Rideshare matching, and public transportation options. The County offers incentives for employees participating in Ridesharing activities.
