    Description

    The Modesto Irrigation District is currently recruiting to fill one full-time regular position under direct supervision of the Building Services Supervisor to perform U.S. and interoffice mail duties; process District bills; operate a variety of office equipment, perform custodial and minor building maintenance work.

    Any qualified individual may apply. This is a non-exempt position and is part of the Utility Services and Maintenance Bargaining Unit. The list established as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill other Building Services Worker vacancies that may occur within the District through May 5, 2027.

    Examples of Duties

    Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Pick up, sort and deliver interoffice and U.S. mail at various District and outside facilities daily;
    • Operate mail handling equipment;
    • Dispatch mail according to a prescribed schedule;
    • Perform minor maintenance on mailing equipment;
    • Complete forms and log books;
    • Determine class or types of postage rates meter mailings;
    • Answer questions and advise as to postal regulations and rates;
    • Operate a variety of office equipment;
    • Receive and distribute shipments of merchandise and supplies;
    • Assist in tracking and ordering mailroom and office supplies;
    • Move, arrange and set up office furniture and equipment for various events;
    • Report building and equipment maintenance requirements;
    • Clean grounds and facilities.
    May assist in general building service and repair duties as follows:
    • Perform general maintenance and repairs of District buildings, e.g. minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, lighting and painting;
    • Repair and assemble office furniture;
    • Maintain records of equipment operation and repairs;
    • Operate a variety of power and hand tools;
    • Custodial work;
    • Perform overtime and/or emergency work as required;
    Other Related Duties: Other duties as assigned.

    Typical Qualifications

    Any combination of education, experience, knowledge and abilities may satisfy the necessary minimum qualifications. A typical way to obtain the education, experience, knowledge and abilities would be:

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: Three (3) year's experience of mail systems and/or general maintenance experience for the Building Services Worker.

    Knowledge of:
    • Postal regulations; modern office and custodial practices, supplies, and equipment.
    Ability to:
    • Operate mailing machine and related equipment; maintain files and records; make arithmetic calculations; make minor repairs to reproduction equipment; use electrical and mechanical tools and equipment skillfully and safely; follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others, work with minimal supervision; write clearly and legibly.

    Special Requirement: Must have a valid California Class C driver license.
