    The Job

    The Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), is seeking a Program Coordinator*to manage and oversee various recycling and waste management programs. Key responsibilities include reviewing debris management plans, attending land use planning meetings, conducting public education and outreach, creating website content, and assisting with lien processing, budgeting, and administration of the hauler franchise program. The role also involves preparing reports, implementing state-mandated commercial recycling requirements, providing customer service, managing 42 diversion programs, and conducting waste assessments.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.

    Assignment: This position is required to work some weekends. Applicants must indicate a willingness to work weekends on the supplemental questionnaire.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required at the time of appointment.

    Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet ONE of the qualifying options below:

    Option 1:
    Education:
    Bachelor's degree in business administration, environmental science, health education, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, planning, or a closely related field.

    -AND-
    Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in interpretation, applying, and explaining rules and regulations, assisting businesses and the public, conducting research, and/or ensuring compliance with government regulations and/or experience in the administration, development, implementation, and/or promotion of programs in an office setting.
    Option 2 : Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university, half of which must be upper division, in business administration, environmental science, health education, journalism, marketing, advertising, public relations, planning, or a closely related field. A list of completed coursework must be submitted with the application.

    -AND-
    Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience in interpretation, applying, and explaining rules and regulations, assisting businesses and the public, conducting research, and/or ensuring compliance with government regulations and/or experience in the administration, development, implementation, and/or promotion of programs in an office setting. Substitution for Education : An additional year of qualifying experience may substitute for the upper division coursework requirement.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a background in recycling, waste reduction, resource conservation, sustainability, or related environmental programs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Publisher, along with experience using social media professionally is preferred.
