    Pay Range: $21.11 - $23.82/hr.

    This position may qualify for a $2,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid on the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after 6 months of employment.

    Workdays & Hours: Depending on assignment:
    • Tuesday - Friday 7 am - 5:30 pm (4 10-hour shifts)

    This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule. Overtime or compensatory time may be required to assist with emergencies or maintenance needs and work in diverse weather conditions.

    An Equipment Operator job is available with the Transportation and Public Works/Stormwater Operations Division. Stormwater Operations maintains over 1,000 miles of Storm drainpipe and approximately 300 miles of open channels, ensuring our citizens are safe from flooding. Candidates selected for this position will work in the Inlet Cleaning Program, assisting a crew leader with inlet and lateral line cleaning and inspecting inlets.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma/GED
    • One (1) year of experience in operation of heavy equipment or construction experience
    • Possession of a Class A Driver's License and ability to obtain a Tank Endorsement will be required within six (6) months of hire; Operations of a vactor as required

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
    • Work zone safety
    • Confine space entry
    • Additional construction repair and maintenance experience
    • Experience with various hand tools, vacuum trucks, and tools or equipment related to assigned division
    • Basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office

    The Equipment Operator job responsibilities include:
    • Pulling and hooking up high-pressure hoses when cleaning storm drains and pipes. This includes truck positioning, feeding, and retrieving high-pressure lines from pipes
    • Operates various hand tools
    • Identify and clean storm lines, manholes, and inlets as necessary
    • Work in all weather conditions and have the ability to crawl into pipes and inlets that range from 18" in diameter and up, willing to get dirty
    • Equipment operations and manual labor duties as they relate to maintenance operations

    Depending on the assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting, depending on the assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions.

    Physical Demands:

    Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

    Medical Program

    The City offers two plan options through Meritain Health, an Aetna company.

    Vacation
